Judge allows glyphosate lawsuit to go to trial


A federal judge in northern California will let a class-action lawsuit go to trial against Monsanto even though he calls the evidence “shaky.”

The plaintiffs claim Monsanto’s glyphosate product, RoundUp, causes cancer. Evidence was presented to the judge on behalf of hundreds of patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Monsanto also presented scientific experts who say there is not a link and that the claim is based on flawed evidence from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (I-ARC) that says glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans.”

A jury will hear the case and the standard of proof will be different than I-ARC’s public health assessment.
